Oboe Concerto No. 1

William Herschel

Of the three oboe concertos that William Herschel wrote, this one is the most interesting and best constructed. The keyboard accompaniment is a good reflection of his orchestral writing. The cadenza was composed by Valentin Villenave, and provides a good foil to the 18th century style. Obviously oboists can write or improvise their own cadenzas.
